On this songwriting week Edwina and Boo will work with you on your songwriting skills. Meter, melody, lyrics, chords…. every aspect of song. Let us give you the tools to allow your inspiration to be realised. But why What Next? It is important to us what you take with you from the week. In recent years attendees have gone on to wonderful things. Albums have been made, tours toured, songs covered. In one-to-ones we will help you realise any ambitions you have for your writing. Experience has shown us that giving a writer a sense of focus can be transformative.

Boo Hewerdine is a singer-songwriter and experienced tutor. He has written songs for Eddi Reader, k.d. Lang, Chris Difford and many others. His most recent album is God Bless the Pretty Things.

Edwina Hayes’ beautifully written songs, charming stage presence and voice of an angel have won her a reputation as a true natural talent of gentle folk-Americana. She has opened numerous shows for Jools Holland and Van Morrison as well as her own gigs playing stages everywhere from Glastonbury Festival to The Royal Albert Hall. Edwina numbers Michael Parkinson and Mike Harding among her fans and the title track of her album Pour Me A Drink was covered by Nanci Griffith who calls her ‘the sweetest voice in England’.

Martin Stephenson has been one of the UK’s best-loved musicians for 30 years. Always popular on the circuit, Stephenson’s “must see” live performances are an exuberant tour-de-force combining heart-in-your-mouth intimacy with playful humour and warm self-deprecation. The Daintees’ (the band he’s intermittently fronted through a string of albums, and hundreds of gigs) critically acclaimed 1986 debut BOAT TO BOLIVIA opened up an always interesting story. It showcased Stephenson’s songwriting, poetic romanticism and spiritual depth – so marking him out as a soulful cream of the leftfield crop during the self-obsessed 1980s.  Never pandering to a particular scene, Stephenson’s lightness of touch on a varied mix of musical styles was immediately apparent. His path was destined to be a lifelong journey through the music he loved: folk, ragtime, jazz, rockabilly, show tunes, punk-pop and country.
