The Travel Writing Award was established to give a writer, living and working in Scotland, the opportunity to develop skills in the genre and enhance their writing practice.
Kindly donated by Mairi Hedderwick, the Travel Writing Award will this year support one place on our Writing and Walking Course at Moniack Mhor Creative Writing Centre from Monday 22nd – Saturday 27th June, 2020. The tutors for the course are Madeleine Bunting and Chris Stewart with Guest Neil Ansell. Please note, a good, general level of fitness is required for participants on this course.
This award is open to published and unpublished writers living and working in Scotland who have, or would like to have, a travel piece in development.
We ask applicants to submit one Microsoft Word document which includes:-
- A covering letter that provides a summary of your work in progress, how you arrived at the concept or idea, what stage you are at with the work and how you feel this award would benefit you.
- Your full CV, highlighting any relevant literary achievements – such as publications – your background and other experience. Full contact details should also be provided.
- A sample of your work, no more than 2000 words long.
It is really helpful if you can include page numbers, a header or footer with your name and if you save the document with your name as the file name (but no points deducted if any of this is beyond your IT capabilities!).
The deadline for applications is Monday 16th March 2020 at 11.59pm.
Applications should preferably be sent by email to: firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line: Travel Writing Award. We are also happy to receive applications by post: Moniack Mhor Writers’ Centre, Teavarran, Kiltarlity, Inverness-shire IV4 7HT.
