This week is an opportunity to develop your ongoing work in a supportive and inspiring environment. Whether stuck in the middle of a project, attempting to whip a messy first draft into decent shape or applying the final tweaks and polish to your manuscript, we will be on hand to offer detailed one-to-one tutorials catered for your individual needs. This course will suit writers with a work in progress who need an intensive period of time to make significant progress with their writing.

Leila Aboulela, winner of the Caine Prize for African Writing, lives in Aberdeen. She is the author of four novels, The Kindness of Enemies, The Translator, shortlisted for the Saltire Prize, Minaret and Lyrics Alley, Fiction Winner of the Scottish Book Awards. Her collection of short stories, Coloured Lights, was shortlisted for the MacMillan Silver PEN Award. Leila’s work has been translated into 14 languages, many of her plays were broadcast on BBC Radio, and her writing has appeared in publications such as Granta, Freeman’s and the Guardian. She grew up in Sudan and moved, in her mid-twenties, to Scotland.

Rodge Glass is the author of the novels No Fireworks, Hope for Newborns and Bring Me the Head of Ryan Giggs, as well as a graphic novel, Dougie’s War (written with Dave Turbitt), LoveSexTravelMusik: Stories for the EasyJet Generation and Alasdair Gray: A Secretary’s Biography. His work has been nominated for ten awards, both national and international, and he won a Somerset Maugham Award for Non-Fiction in 2009. As well as being a Reader in Literary Fiction at Edge Hill University in Lancashire, Rodge is an experienced editor of over 20 novels and short story collections, and is currently Co-Director of Edge Hill University Press. His fiction has been translated into Danish, Hebrew, Italian, Serbian, Spanish and Slovenian.

Alan Spence is an award-winning poet and playwright, novelist and short story writer. He is Professor Emeritus in Creative Writing at Aberdeen University, where he founded the WORD Festival and ran it for 12 years. With his wife he runs the Sri Chinmoy Meditation Centre in Edinburgh. His most recent books are the novel Night Boat (based on the life of Zen master Hakuin), the poetry collection Morning Glory (with illustrations by Dame Elizabeth Blackadder), and the play No Nothing, which imagines Edwin Morgan and Jimmy Reid blethering in the afterlife.
