Residential Terms and Conditions

‘Course’ = A tutored course, untutored retreat, or tutored retreat, taking place at Moniack Mhor Writing Centre.
‘You’ = the person who is booking the course and / or who is attending the course.
‘We’ = Moniack Mhor Writing Centre

Bookings
Bookings can only be confirmed when accompanied by the stated deposit. The balance of your course is payable no later than six weeks before the course starts. If we do not receive your balance when it’s due, we reserve the right to offer the place to someone else.

Deposits
Deposits are refundable for a 14-day ‘cooling-off’ period after you book (unless you book within 14 days of the course start date, in which case your deposit is only refundable up until five days before the course starts).

After the initial 14-day cooling-off period, deposits are non-refundable.

Remaining balance
The remaining balance of the course is due six weeks before the course start date. This is usually non-refundable within this six-week period.

Cancellations
If you need to cancel before six weeks prior to the course start date, we will refund any money paid minus the deposit.

If you need to cancel within six weeks of the course start date, we are unable to refund any of your course fees. However, after you cancel your place, we will do our best to re-sell your place. If we are successful in this, we may be able to offer a refund of your fees minus your deposit, or transfer a portion of your fees to a future course on a discretionary basis.

If we (Moniack Mhor) have to cancel a course, we will give you the option of refunding your full fees (including your deposit), or holding your fees in credit with ourselves to use on the course at a later date. Having fees in credit with us entitles you to priority booking on future courses. We will refund any fees held in credit at any point if you find that the later course dates are not suitable.

Transfers
You may be able to transfer your fee to another residential or online course, subject to availability. We will normally accept transfers up to six weeks before the course you originally booked onto takes place, and all fees paid will be allocated to the new course.

Changes to the programme
On occasion, we may have to make changes to the advertised programme, tutors and / or schedule. As we plan the programme in advance, changes will inevitably occur to some courses, and occasionally the original tutors are unavailable. We always try to replace tutors with someone of similar experience, and to give you as much notice as possible. On these occasions, we regret that cancellation rights remain as above and we are unable to reimburse travel costs.

Travel insurance
Unfortunately, we cannot reimburse travel costs or other losses incurred in the event of cancellation or postponement. This applies to cancellations or postponements by us or you. We advise you to take out travel insurance and please check that the policy suits your needs i.e. covers for course fees and travel costs.

Conduct
We ask that you are respectful to the property and surrounding context, i.e. neighbours and livestock. Moniack Mhor reserves the right to refuse a place to any person who, in the opinion of the Centre Director, behaves in an abusive, destructive or disruptive manner. There would be no refund given if exclusion is made for these reasons.

Loss
Moniack Mhor cannot accept responsibility for any loss, damage or expense sustained by guests as a result of an event or circumstance whether arising from natural cause, human agency, or beyond its control.

Participation and access
Moniack Mhor is commited to providing a supportive and welcoming environment to all. We can usually accommodate a carer or support worker, and we also welcome assistance dogs. During a residential visit, course participants will be expected to take part in daily group activities. Participants will be expected to share domestic duties within the group, such as preparing a meal or washing up, for which guidance is provided.  If you have specific needs or are unable to take part in certain activities, it is important that you discuss these with the Centre prior to booking, to establish how we can best meet your needs.
