Writing, art, and the many forms in between and beyond

Every encounter, experience, and story of place can be told differently, and the form you chose will affect how your work is read or viewed. It can be really useful – and enjoyable – to play and experiment with different forms on your way to figuring out the one that best suits what you are trying to do. How might words, images or a mixture of both help communicate the moments, atmospheres, feelings and complexities that you’re looking to capture and convey? Sometimes a poem might arise from a photograph, or a sentence might evoke a place/feeling/thought more effectively; an initial sketch might hold something that the painting that comes from it might not. This masterclass is about thinking through the ways in which we might give expression to the multifaceted nature of our experiences and encounters with places and spaces in playful and thoughtful ways.

We’ll look at some of the approaches that Amanda and other writers, artists, musicians and others have taken, as well as offering some opportunity for experimentation within the short masterclass, We want ‘creative responses to place’ help you figure out ways forward, and how you might work on different forms to help you realise what suits your ideas, or what you want to convey.

Hosted by Moniack Mhor on Zoom Pro.
