Romeo and Michele Stodart of The Magic Numbers brother and sister join forces to share part of their process with songwriting. This three hour online session will dive into the importance of hooks, harmony, melodic phrases, inner rhymes and the power of call and response. The Magic Numbers, Mercury Award Nominees are celebrating their 20th Anniversary this year. The band has had worldwide success with their records and top ten singles over the years. We at Moniack are delighted to have Romeo and Michele Stodart as part of our First Stages Online Programme supporting and nurturing young and emerging songwriters.

Tutors

Michele Stodart is a multi-award-winning singer-songwriter, producer, musical director and multi-instrumentalist. She is best known as bassist, vocalist and co-songwriter of Mercury-nominated, double-platinum selling band, The Magic Numbers, who have released five critically acclaimed studio albums with top ten singles, and supported the likes of Neil Young, Radiohead, Brian Wilson, U2, The Who, Flaming Lips and Bright Eyes. She continues to play with the band and tour world-wide, and they are set to release a new album next year.

Romeo Stodart is the lead singer/songwriter in the much loved London based rock n roll harmony group The Magic Numbers. The band comprising two pairs of brothers and sisters have released five critically acclaimed albums thus far including the self-titled Mercury Music Prize nominated, Double Platinum selling debut. Alongside The Magic Numbers, Romeo has collaborated with a vast array of artists including writing songs for & with the late Jane Birkin, Edwyn Collins, Amadou & Mariam and The Chemical Brothers. He has contributed his unique guitar playing style to various projects, from Damon Albarn’s Africa Express collective, to playing banjo, guitar & harmonies on the Spiritualized album, ‘Sweet Heart Sweet Light’.

First Stages

First Stages is part of The Scottish Government’s Youth Music Initiative (YMI) which is administered by Creative Scotland. The YMI creates access to high quality music making opportunities, enables young people to achieve their potential in or through music and supports the development of the sector for the benefit of young people.

This event is for anyone aged 16-25 (up to 30 if you have lived experience of the care system) living in Scotland who is interested in songwriting and experiences isolation or have less access to making songs. By signing up, you acknowledge that you are eligible.
