International Cabaret of Words & Music

International Cabaret of Words & Music

Date(s) - Fri 4th Aug, 2023
7:00pm - 9:00pm

WASPS Inverness Creative Academy, Inverness, , IV2 3JP

You are invited to join us for an exciting evening of international words and music!

Writers from West Africa, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, and Scotland have come together to work with young people through Moniack Mhor’s Young Writers Festival to help them find their creative voice and hone their craft – now you can share in that creative energy at this cabaret of performance from all the participating writers, whose words will be woven through with Scottish harp and fiddle music from Ingrid and Megan Henderson.

Writers performing will include Nigerian performance poet Chika Jones, Scottish nature writer and artist Amanda Thomson, Canadian-Scottish poet Alycia Pirmohamed, Nigerian poet and writer Tolu Agbelusi, Glasgow-based fiction writer Heather Parry, and Emirati poet Mariam Alzarooni. There will also be guest appearances from Moniack Mhor’s 2023 Jessie Kesson Fellow, poet and performer Genevieve Carver, and Ukrainian poet Ostap Slyvynsky.

Bringing Highland music to the cabaret, are Ingrid and Megan Henderson. The Hendersons of Lochaber are custodians of a musical lineage stretching back several centuries. Originally pipers to the MacDonald’s of Glencoe, the present generation of ‘Clan Eunraig Mòr nam Feadan’ have become widely known as fine instrumentalists and singers. Together Ingrid and Megan create a sound which, honed in an upbringing, becomes as natural as breathing.

There will also be an opportunity to hear some of the young people who have taken part in the festival, making this a rare opportunity to hear new Scottish voices alongside professional writers from across the world.

7.00pm – 9.00pm, Friday 4th August 2023 at WASPS Creative Academy, Inverness

We are running this as a ‘pay as you can’ event, with all proceeds from the event going towards the Moniack Mhor Young Writers Programme. Please see our booking options below.
