Wha’s Like Us : Challenging Stigma Through Creativity

On Monday 5th September we are hosting the fourth of five special writing workshops, delivered in collaboration with Spirit Advocacy and HUG: Action for Mental Health.

Stigma affects the lives of those living with mental illness around the Highlands. The HUG project is using Robert Burns and Scotland’s Year of Stories to deliver their anti stigma work; highlighting the effects of stigma through creativity including creative writing, audio and film and challenging people to think differently about mental illness.

Tutored by poet Jen Hadfield, this two hour workshop will look at writing about place, using the HUG project as a springboard to creative expression.

Jen Hadfield lives in Shetland. Her first collection, Almanacs, won an Eric Gregory Award in 2003. Her second collection, Nigh-No-Place, won the T. S. Eliot Prize and was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Collection. She won the Edwin Morgan Poetry Competition in 2012, and her most recent collection, The Stone Age, was awarded the 2021 Highland Book Prize.
