Editorial Team

This is a paid opportunity!

We’re looking for 8 people aged 18-24 living in | or from the Highlands and Islands to join our editorial team to create an anthology of writing by people aged 14-24.

You will be supported through the whole process of creating a beautiful, inspiring anthology that showcases the breadth and vibrancy of young writers in the Highlands. Guided and mentored by Luke Thompson, co-founder of Guillemot Press, you will learn and practice a variety of skills relating to the publishing industry.

During the process, you will learn invaluable skills that relate to the publishing industry including

  • Proofreading
  • Editing
  • Book design
  • Promotion
  • Events
  • Commissioning
  • Other

What might your role include:

  • Deciding the theme for the anthology
  • Creating the call out and eligibility for the anthology
  • Choosing which submissions to print
  • Co-create the design of the anthology

Hours will be flexible, you’d probably need to be able to work a few hours per month (around 25 hours of work for the whole project). You will be reimbursed for your time in a way that works for you, this might be bank transfers, vouchers etc.

Geography isn’t an issue you can join from anywhere in the Highlands and Islands, as most of the work will be done remotely and we’ll invite you for one long weekend in person at Moniack Mhor in December to work on the anthology – we cover your travel expenses.

If you struggle with forms, please get in touch, we can organise alternative ways of applying, such as a phone call, via zoom, sending in a video or by sending an email.

Who is it for?

Anyone aged 18-24 from or living in the Highlands and Islands. We’re specifically keen to support people who may have experience of the care system, neurodiversity or marginalisation/isolation.

Do I need to have experience?

No need for experience! We’ll give you the skills required throughout the project. It would be great if you’re already curious about the publishing industry!
