OUR BEGINNINGS
Moniack Mhor is Scotland’s National Writing Centre. Based in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, we run courses in a range of genres tutored by some of the finest authors in the UK and beyond. With workshops and one to one tutorials, our courses provide an atmosphere to fully immerse yourself in your writing. The centre also offers writing retreats providing time and space, free from distractions, where you will find yourself part of a nurturing writing community. Other support offered by Moniack Mhor includes awards, bursaries, professional residencies to develop works in progress and a programme for young writers.
SPRING RESIDENCY
Moniack Mhor Writers’ Centre is offering two-week-long self-supported, subsidised residencies for established writers across all forms, living in or from Scotland.
These residencies will provide you with a nurturing space as part of a supportive community, allowing uninterrupted time to continue your work, in the peace and nourishment of Moniack Mhor.
SONGWRITING COURSE
Finding and sharing your voice in song. Have you always wanted to write a song? Do you want time for writing more songs? Do you want to stretch out of your usual creative practice? Songwriting can be the connective way we reach out to others and also make sense of our own feelings .
PLAYWRITING WORKSHOP
We're collaborating with the Royal Court Theatre to organise two workshops for people aged 13-18, one in Inverness and one in Forres.
MENTORING MASTERCLASS
Mentoring is growing increasingly popular as a support for emerging poets working towards a first collection. But how exactly can a mentoring programme help and how effective is it? Are there opportunities to reimagine it? Join Cáit O’Neill McCullagh and John Glenday for an online discussion and reading where they will examine these issues, discuss their perspectives of the mentoring relationship and share their poetry.
YOUNG WRITERS CAFÉ
Join Kirsty Logan for a Young Writers’ Café about how to take real experiences from your life and transform them into surreal, fantastical fiction.
ONLINE: NON-FICTION COURSE
There are several ways to approach nonfiction writing: memoir, travel, journalism, creative. Led by Rebecca Smith, this course looks at how to blend a number of techniques to create an informative and emotive piece that connects the reader to your work, using reportage, facts, interviews and your own lived experience.
