Date(s) - Thu 25th May, 2023
11:00am - 1:00pm

Online, Moniack Mhor Hosting, via Zoom,

As part of Moniack Mhor’s upcoming 30th anniversary celebrations later this year, we are launching a series of online masterclasses taught by respected writers and tutors, many of whom have long histories with Moniack Mhor. Whether you’re new to writing, polishing your umpteenth draft, or simply want to try a taster of a different style, form, or genre, we’re confident you’ll enjoy and be inspired by these focused shorter sessions. All hosted by Moniack Mhor on Zoom Pro, usually with an opportunity to ask questions at the end. More of these to come during 2023-24 – we’ll keep you posted! Meanwhile, enjoy …

Writing a memoir: where do I start?

Do you want to write about yourself? How do we make sense of the glorious mess of life and try to tame it onto the page? What about writing about real people? Do we always have to tell the truth?

This stimulating workshop will address all these questions and offer tools and techniques to help you start turning your life events into a narrative. The class will include short writing exercises and there will be space for questions at the end.

Cathy Rentzenbrink is an acclaimed memoirist whose books include The Last Act of Love, How to Feel Better and Dear Reader. Her first novel is Everyone is Still Alive, and Write It All Down is a friendly and down to earth guide to writing a memoir. Cathy regularly chairs literary events, interviews authors, runs creative writing courses and speaks and writes on life, death, love, and literature. Despite being shortlisted for various prizes, the only thing Cathy has ever won is the Snaith and District Ladies’ Darts Championship when she was 17. She is now sadly out of practice.

We are running this as a ‘pay as you can’ event. Please see our booking options below.

This course is now fully booked. Please contact us on info@moniackmhor.org.uk or 01463 741 675 to be added to the waiting list.
